Each time a major awards ceremony draws close, one notices a demand for introducing of new categories to acknowledge overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of followers with niche passions.
A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains a necessary evil within the realm of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute as a single art form.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.
Existing Game Classification System
Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications actually cover many game types, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.
This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition completely during that awards season
- Another creative title received no nominations that year
- Well-received sorting experience got ignored recently
- Limited numbers of brain-teasers barely qualified for niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
Commonly they're small games, but the art of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among the most-played games in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.
The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, while interacting with almost every other genre.
The Solution and Justification
Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.
To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the demanding boundary of video game design, producing among the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
