The artist has donated the entirety of his £25,000 award winnings to the trust for venues, which works to save the Britain's small live music spots.

He was awarded the award on mid-October as his latest record People Watching was declared the outstanding release of the previous year.

Fender has decided to hand the money over to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the crucial part grassroots venues played in his initial steps.

"I would not have achieved this success if it wasn't for all the gigs I played around the region, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," remarked the artist. "These venues are legendary, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these venues have ceased operations – roughly 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its attempts to support the industry, by adding a small levy to their ticket costs, which benefits independent venues.

He also took part, generating over £100k on his recent tour to support numerous local spots across the UK.

These funds assisted locations that were dealing with potential shutdown due to difficulties caused by flooding, fires and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Some locations were granted monetary aid in improving amenities and technical equipment that positively impacted artists and concertgoers.

"The notion that revenue from shows in big venues backs the smaller venues, where it all starts for performers like me, is just sensible," Fender has stated.

Two years ago, the band donated their winnings to the local youth club that supported their band, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

And winners that year M People donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was diagnosed the condition.

"The victory was ample," said singer the singer. "The cash was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the honor. So our winning impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the MVT revealed it had protected a couple of small stages in south-east England, by bringing them into local control.

One venue in that area and the other in the city were purchased under the community ownership program, which is backed by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who acquire "ownership units" in the properties.
