Probe Findings

Government investigators disclosed that the jet’s port side wing burst into flames and an engine fell off just after departure from the airfield, resulting in the jet to crash and burst into a inferno.

The safety agency stated it is probing the plane’s service record, which was in Texas for maintenance several weeks ahead of the accident.

Aircraft information showed the aircraft was on the ground in that location from the start of last month to mid-October.

“We are knowledgeable that this aircraft was present in that city,” said an NTSB member on Thursday, without a precise date range. “We will review all elements of maintenance that was done, including the San Antonio period, right up to the day of the trip.”

Recovery of Key Components

The cockpit voice recorder and information unit were found, and the engine was located on the airfield.

The devices – referred to as black boxes – were built to survive crash impacts and extreme heat from blazes, and they seemed to be intact when found amid the wreckage. Investigators plan on examining data from the black boxes.

The plane’s concluding data recordings indicated an elevation of 475 ft and a velocity of 210 miles per hour ahead of the crash.

Repair History

Per FAA documents dated 18 September, a fracture on a structural piece within the center wing fuel tank needed repairs.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which indicated it supplies aircraft servicing for the company’s MD-11 and operates a repair facility in that city, declined to speak, but said it would cooperate fully when investigators approached it.

A memorial was organized on the late afternoon of 6 November by the local labor union, which acts for staff at the airfield, the organization’s primary freight center.

Worker representatives, which stands for employees, commenced the gathering with a moment of silence at the evening hour, the estimated hour of the crash previously.

“This event was so abrupt, so surprising,” the leader told the crowd of attendees. “No one had a chance to part to any one of those who we have said farewell to.”
